Bariles just got word from the Alumni Affairs Office of the Notre Dame of Dadiangas University that the 50-year old premier educational institution in General Santos City will be offering the course Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management when school year 2009-2010 opens in June.
And in addition to that, under NDDU President Bro. John Tan, FMS‘ administration, an HRM Laboratory will also be built. Here is an artist’s sketch of the proposed building designed by R.G. Salanatin Construction, Inc.
NDDU joins the growing list of schools in GenSan offering HRM after graduates of the course have proven to be in demand abroad especially in the UK, Canada and Middle Eastern countries.
With this development, Bariles hopes that NDDU gets the best teachers and instructors to ensure that what they produce in this new field are exceptionally trained and well-prepared and ready to face the challenges of their profession.

Sus ui! nganong ipanghambog man jud nang NMDU over NDDU? unsa jud diay ang susto nila? pareha ra man na nga MARSIT school… mga Notre Dame lang man nang duha… unsa man nang si pugita ui…
Notre Dame of Dadiangas University os offering Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management major in HOTEL AND RESTAURANT MANAGEMENT… meron ding Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management major in TOURISM… galing… 🙂
uhmmm, naa man siguro appropriate na site para ipanghambog ang NDMU noh? murag mali man ni nga site ang naadtuan ni PUGITA… hambog ba jud mga tao sa NDMU? tan-awa ra gud ang ginabuhat aning isa diri. isa pa, wala man sa kagwapo sa laboratory ang quality education siguro di ba? kung ana man lang ilang way of thinking (the “competition” which is a WRONG WAY OF THINKING) i don’t care and we don’t care about the NDMU na lang eh, anyway, we have NDDU here. Hay, na lang jud they’re putting their co-Marist family as if they’re the best well in fact these schools have the same founder, incorporate same values, share one vision and mission.
WALA ka naulaw PUGITA?
MAS MAGANDA ANG DESIGN SA NDMU…and nagsstart na ang contruction ngaun…
don’t settle for less when it comes to education…someday you will reap the fruit of it..in ten folds or more…
just my two cents for great..
mahal masyado ang notre dame..
undeniably NDDU is the premier university in Gensan…
kudos to Marist Brothers…
for “concern student of NDDU”
i’m sorry it happened to you… i would like to share a contrast with you – my experience – when i was still pursuing my degree in nddc (now nddu) more that 10 years ago… i’d like to put in my “two cents” into this one… RUBEN is correct that we have to look into the student handbook, as it contains the provisions that one must follow when enrolled in an educational institution… however, i am also no stranger to this as we were not taking our our p.e. classes and rotc (in my time) when i joined the chorale – to put it in in simple terms, it is our premium when we devote our time and effort in daily practices, rehearsals, presentation, etc… however, we have a moderator and a conductor who gives us the grades based on our attendance (in practices and rehearsals), participation (in performances), and over-all effort in projects that we initiate back then… it is not an exemption of not attending classes back then (we still have to report for rotc exams); it is more of taking another route to the aforementioned subjects… i suggest that you review your student handbook on the provisions given to student-athletes (or participants to extra-curricular/co-curricular activities) just like yourself, and you may talk to the administration ragarding your grades… i would say that being a student-athlete does not excuse one from not attending classes, regardless if it is p.e. or nstp (or pgs), unless otherwise enacted by someone or something… in my time, the arrangement/ruling was passed by the previous school president in the hope that the school would be able to put up a chorale group to call its own back then (1997)… we may have been given priviliges for not attending p.e. and rotc, but we also have our reasons why we endure and devote our time to 2-hour daily practices, endless rehearsals, and on-the-spot presentations… it may be that you have overlooked on some details – was the arrangement approved by the administration, were there signed documents, were there arrangements for the grades (clearly, you need to have a basis for the grades), and how is performance gauged in being a student-athlete for one to be graded for both subjects… and lastly, i have to agree with RUBEN (again) that you refer this with the concerned administrator… your problem cannot be resolved by posting comments here… although i have to admit that this blogsite is a must-read for everyone… good luck!!!
“concern student of NDDU”
There is a provisions for the varsity:
that you have to follow the STUDENT HANDBOOK ON CO-CURRICULAR & EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES. Please see the concern administrator! Ty

Good day!
Magpapatulong po sana ako regarding sa exemption ng mga varsity players ng NDDU na binigyan ng failure remarks sa P.E. and N.S.T.P. subjects na in fact pinaghirapan naman ng mga players ng NDDU to uphold the name of their alma matter and I think its very unfair that in behalf of everything that the varsity player trying to pursue failure remarks yung isusukli sa kanila . Nakakalungkot isipin na walang coordination ang bawat department ng NDDU especially in Sports and NSTP coordinator. Sana there is a CHED official who will look forward regarding on this issue thanks..
keep my identity confidential because this issue is very sensitive..

hi! hindi lang pala BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management ang Bagong course na ino-offer ng NDDU.
Meron na rin silang BS in Hospitality Management pati Bs in Tourism… galing ah…
Soar High Kingfishers! Viva Marista!
hello, “concern student of NDDU” i think nagakamali ka sa pinuntahan mo… NDDU has its organizational chart, mas mabuting dun mo iparating concerns mo about your grade tama po ba? 🙂

I checked UST’s Official website and it’s TRUE that they’ll be expanding in Gensan come 2011. Here’s the link: http://www.ust.edu.ph/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=644&Itemid=104
@busyjay : Are you sure of that statement??? hmmm…

Unsa pa laing new courses ang gi-offer sa NDDU? Unta butangan sad nila ug MedTech sa?
i have to agree with you, MAMAVIA… i think hoteliers, chefs, maitre d’s, and concierges would be fit teachers in this field; as they are the ones with experience and expertise in this field… though a new course in the institution, the school should be able to provide apt and qualified instructors in their subects as well… if we say that professionals in this field are in demand all over the world, the schould would need to provide world-class education (in standard), so that the graduates would be competent when they practice their careers… 🙂
viva marista!!!
p.s.
KUY… baka puwede mong makulit ang admin ng school na i-develop yung website nila… mas nindot pa ang website sa ndmu… through a website, it can boost its mileage to “pogi points”, and it would provide an avenue for the alumni to get in touch with each other… watchatink? “two cents” ko lang po… 🙂
sa tingin ko ‘di naman kukuha ng fresh graduate teachers ang NDDU kasi dapat masters or doctoral degree ang qualifications for their teachers. kung kukuha man sila ng fresh grad, pinapag-aral muna nila ng master’s degree or higher sa Ateneo, La salle or UST and all-expense paid or half (depende) by the school 🙂
i agree with you mamavia, I have always felt too that our professors are the true and best textbooks for us students. 🙂
it’s nice to know na dami na hrm schools dito gensan. sana lang competitive din ang mga teachers nila, kasi yun ibang schools na nag ooffer ng hrm, mga fresh graduates ang teachers. i graduated with bs hrm degree 10 yrs ago,and my teachers then were hoteliers as well. i think the students need an experienced teacher bec 50% of what they need to teach are based on experience…not just only in what u read in books. yun lang po…hehe. goodluck to nddu!!!
well said Nate 🙂
God bless to NDDU and to their new offered course… 🙂
VIVA MARISTA!
not specifically on NDDU but rather to most newly sprouting schools and old schools with a motive of simply gaining profit. . . though its good since they give job opportunities to a lot of people but i wish they don’t forget that the school is for learning and not for capitalistic gain. . .
I cracked up on people’s thought about schools competing on having the most students or having better facilities instead the schools should do some benchmarking for good and quality education onwards. . .

hi nate, you’re not referring to NDDU naman siguro ‘di ba?
What about other schools??? In the first place this is a blog about gensan diba.
I just hope that the schools today are focused on true education and not for profit…

Wow this is such a good news.
@Amie – MSU, RMMC, HTC,etc were also been featured here before if we just browse its previous columns. So, Mr. Bariles is not totally biased with NDDU. Besides this blog is a personal initiative of Manoy. Being an alumnus of Notre Dame, we could not blame him if his heart belongs to his alma mater. Anyway, this blog I’m sure was not primarily created by the author for this purpose alone nor to promote certain companies, institutions, etc but for us Generals to be updated of what GenSan has already gone through and about to achieve in later years. That’ why we have to be one. Thanks.
@Ruben – Amen! Notre Dame is known worldwide no doubt about it. But let’s be humble always for this is not the character of our alma mater. De la Salle University has already been into this course long way ago. Their DLS-College of St. Benilde.
@busyjay – well I completely agree with you. NDDU can certainly do what other schools here in gensan did already. What is unique in having educated in a university is very different and a big edge in applying sooner. I hope NDDU will continue to innovate themselves and become a leader in all fields and true to its calling of service and excellent education.
malamang hindi agad maganda ang HRM course ng dame. pero i know eventually, magiging katulad din yan ng goldenstate.
sir, what about other schools? i’ve heard na ang MSU, eh magkakaroon ng nursing course.
nganu diay? wala ka ganahi sa imong course? ikaw na ged! jeje
mag shift na cguro ko.
mag HRM nalang ko
kesa mag nursing hahaha.
late naman ayo ni oi.
mag 3rd yr nako hahaha.
ok to. gandang balita.
excuse me, hrm lab po ng nddu ang topic dito. nobody asked about the hrm lab of ndmu naman ‘di ba? ‘wag nu ipagmayabang ang meron kayo sa isang institution na tulad din ng sa inyo (MARIST). parang nagmayabang na rin kayo sa sarili niyong school… NDDU and NDMU are Marist – walay pahambugay bay! 🙂
Magandang Gensan
and
VIVA MARISTA! 🙂
i just do hope that the school admin. will not only be prioritizing few courses that they are offering…

I noticed NDDU lang lagi napi feature dito, what about other schools? Hehehe! I don’t have anything againts NDDU, my daughters are all Notre dameans, my eldest got her degree from NDDU kaya lang I think it would be nice to know other schools’ big news if you feature them here also…anyway, just a penny for your thought.
I’m confident that NDDU can do it. But i think medyo matatagalan since veteran na ang mga makakalaban ng NDDU sa ganitong course. Goldenstate has Singapore; ano naman kaya sa NDDU? May international connection sila sa European countries ‘di ba? Marist Brothers was founded there sa pagkakaalam ko…
EDUCATION AND YOUTH
Marist Brothers are called as modern day Marcellin Champagnats to minister to young people so they will come to know and love Jesus Christ. Within today’s fast-paced, consumer-driven society, many young people are looking for a simpler, more noble set of values to capture their minds, hearts, and imagination. As Marists, we are particularly dedicated to helping the least favored of young people, those who are excluded from the mainstream of society and whose material poverty often hampers their intellectual, emotional and spiritual growth.
Marist Brothers create an atmosphere of growing and learning that is both challenging and enjoyable and cares about the whole person. Our academic teaching is well respected — an extraordinarily high percentage of students go on to further education. However, it is our spiritual values, our commitment to social justice and our Marist spirituality of presence that we believe makes the greatest difference in who a young person will ultimately become.

Goldenstate College has already proven to the Generals what it is capable of doing, and what has become of their students. In fact, the many number of sprouting mushrooms, err, schools they have, the more enjoying it is to see so many students wearing chef uniforms roaming the GSC Roads, i say: Go Gensan! NDDU’s additional course will prove another milestone in the food industry of Gensan. A competition? Nah, a friendly competition more so!

@tanchi – Yeah i agree with you. NDDU should prove above cost of education & competency over Goldenstate. Since Goldenstate had already proven themselves to be competitive in this course. I hope NDDU could match or even surpass what other school had offered. NDDU has already this MTTP service to the community. Reasonable tuition fees and excellent education attracts more students to enroll.
nice .mas lalo dadami ang students ng NDDU this june.the fact that HRM is in-demand course today.and hey, look at the perspective HRM lab.so nice…give me a second thought to enrol..hehehe
wow..HRM, may kakompetensya na ang Goldenstate. Right now, Goldenstate will still remain on top. Who knows, baka eexcel rin ang NDDU dito. 🙂
