Soon to be Gensan’s Premier Chocolate Destination!

On May 20, 2025, a delicious milestone was celebrated in Barangay Tambler, General Santos City, as the Don Ricardo’s Chocolate Factory—the biggest of its kind in the city—was formally inaugurated. Owned by the dynamic couple Ricardo and Marel Magnayon, this newest venture of Don Ricardo’s Chocolates marks a bold expansion for the proudly local brand known for its artisanal, bean-to-bar creations.

The afternoon program started with the arrival of guests and a ceremonial ribbon cutting, followed by the blessing of the facility by Fr. Glen Maga, CP. In his message, owner Ricardo Magnayon shared their inspiring journey from humble beginnings during the pandemic to this momentous occasion. He also expressed that the chocolate factory is envisioned to become a tourist destination, welcoming visitors in the future who wish to experience the chocolate-making process and the unique Gensan-made flavors.

Representing General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao was Lou Bernardino, who extended the local government’s continued support for thriving homegrown enterprises. Punong Barangay Abdulwahid D. Bualan of Barangay Tambler also gave a heartfelt message of congratulations, proud that the factory stands as a landmark development in their barangay.

Special guests included Mr. Esmael M. Intao, PhD, AMAD Chief of the Department of Agriculture, and Ms. Flora P. Gabonales, Regional Director of the Department of Trade and Industry, who both commended Don Ricardo’s for championing local cacao, sustainability, and innovation in agri-entrepreneurship.

The program closed with a toast by Marel Magnayon, followed by socials hosted by Edmar Talacan.

Also in attendance were members of the local media and blogging community, including Sox Bloggers Avel Manansala of Gensan News Online and Betina Briones, who helped capture this meaningful event for the digital audience.

Though not yet open to the public, Don Ricardo’s Chocolate Factory is already being hailed as Gensan’s upcoming must-visit chocolate destination, with its very own pasalubong center and a lineup of best-selling chocolate bars—dark milk, matcha, and white—made with proudly local ingredients.
