The world is a stressful place, and being able to be at peace and be calm is a skill that more of us should try to have. It makes anything and everything we do much easier and much more enjoyable. It’s a hard thing to do, though. We seem to be programmed to look for the negative things in life rather than focus on the positive. That’s why we need to learn how to have total peace of mind. Once that is achieved, everything becomes a lot better. Here are some ways to get started.

How To Have Total Peace of MInd

Meditation

Meditation is a wonderful way to become more relaxed, feel calmer, and to obtain complete peace of mind. When you meditate, you are focusing solely on what you are doing and living in the moment rather than regretting things that have happened in the past or worrying about things that might happen in the future. When you reach this balance in life, you will be living mindfully, and peace of mind is what follows.

Proper mediation will take practice, but you can start easily by taking just a 10 minutes when you wake up in the morning or before you go to sleep at night. Take deep breaths, and when you breathe out, you can imagine that all the negative issues in your life are also being exhaled. Try listening to mindfulness chants if this helps you to find that peaceful feeling, or escape to a meditation retreat if you have the time.

 Be Prepared

Something that can make a normally calm person feel worried and agitated is being unsure about an upcoming situation. This is where being completely prepared for the future is a good idea. It’s not always possible to be entirely prepared, of course, because the future is unknown. However, having useful information to hand such as the phone number for auto claim lawyers, knowing where your nearest hospital is, even simply having a spare change of clothes or a raincoat in the trunk of your car can all help. If you prepare in advance for any situation you might be heading into; you can feel more at ease and enjoy yourself more.

Go For A Walk

It’s incredible what simply getting out of the house and going for a walk can do. It doesn’t even have to be a long one; just strolling around the block should be enough to calm you down and get you thinking more clearly. It’s even better if you can walk somewhere quiet and in nature, as you will become more in tune with the world and your senses will rejuvenate more quickly. Take deep breaths as you walk and make sure to really look at what’s happening around you. The more you can focus on your environment, the more relaxed and at peace you will feel.

Be Creative

Art is a fantastic way to express your own feelings and thoughts, plus it allows you to be completely in the moment without the opportunity to worry about anything else that is happening in your life. Even if it’s just for a short time, you can be completely focused on what you’re doing, letting the rest of your problems just melt away. It is a wonderful way to ensure that you have total peace of mind.

What’s lovely about doing any art to give you peace is that you don’t even have to be particularly good at what you’re doing. You’re creating this art for yourself and so that you can be happy and relaxed, so it doesn’t have to be a masterpiece as long as you are enjoying the process.

Read A Book

Reading is enjoyable, and it can teach you important lessons about the world and life in general, so why not try it when you’re next feeling anxious about something? Take a good book (if you’re not sure what to read there are plenty of recommendations online, or your friends and family will be happy to give you advice) and settle down somewhere comfortable. Take just 10 minutes and read a chapter or so, and when you put the book down at the end of your time, you’ll soon notice how much better you are feeling about things.

This clarity comes from the fact that you were able to clear your mind for a short while. When you come back to the ‘real world’ after reading, you are able to think better and be more productive and positive in general.

Talk To People

It is all too easy for your thoughts and feelings to get caught up inside you and never let out for fear of seeming foolish or negative. However, it’s when you keep these thoughts and feelings inside that the problems occur; you can become withdrawn and sad, feeling uncomfortable and negative. It can have a seriously detrimental effect on your mental state, and it can even cause physical ailments such as high blood pressure and heart issues.

The best thing you can do is talk to people about how you’re feeling. Letting all of your problems and issues out is the first step in solving them. If you don’t feel you can speak to a friend or relative, then consider getting in touch with a therapist. Sometimes talking to a stranger, especially a professional who understands what you are talking about, is the best way forward. Once you have unburdened yourself, you will feel more at peace and be able to continue moving forward.

Exercise

When you are feeling down, you may not want to go out and exercise, but it’s actually one of the best things you can do. As with many other suggestions on this list, exercise allows you to be totally in the moment so that you don’t have to worry about whatever it is that is causing you concern.

Exercise has another positive impact on those who are feeling anxious or concerned as well. When you exercise, your body releases serotonin into the bloodstream and this hormone, known as the happy hormone, improves the mood and reduces the amount of cortisol (the stress hormone) in your body. Plus, exercise helps you stay fit and healthy and makes it easier to lose weight too.
