One of the more successful schools in Gen. Santos City, the Goldenstate College has truly grown tremendously in the last three years. From its former student population of 2,500 in 2005 it has more than doubled to 6,300 students in 2007.
Credit goes to the husband and wife team of owners Warren and Sarah Manilay who, after the former leaving his job at the local government, strengthened their curriculum (to include health care courses), upgraded their facilities, and hired only the most competent instructors they could find. They also linked up with establishments in Singapore to give their Hotel and Restaurant Management students venues for training before they finally graduate. (My niece, the family cook Claudine will hopefully be one of them.)
Lately, their students have been winning competitions locally and elsewhere, a testament to their commitment to produce globally competitive and highly-skilled graduates.
I was not surprised then to see this billboard (above) along the Pedro Acharon, Sr. Boulevard (beside the gasoline station of the Royecas) announcing the construction of their own building. All along I knew that it was bound to happen considering their recent successes.
With this development, the students, faculty and staff of the Goldenstate College will now truly be proud to have a place they can finally call their “own home”.
And yes, since it’s along the beach line of Sarangani Bay… expect that area’s commercial life to perk up again soon!
