SEHI, PhilHealth Region XII Bring Life-Saving Heart Surgeries Closer to Home

St. Elizabeth Hospital and PhilHealth Region XII Seal Historic Partnership: Z-Benefit Packages for Open-Heart Surgery (Bypass Surgery) and Valvular Heart Disease Now Accessible in Region 12

General Santos City, Philippines – April 28, 2025 — In a landmark development for health care in Region 12, St. Elizabeth Hospital (SEHI) has been officially accredited by PhilHealth Region XII as a Z-Benefit provider for open-heart surgeries, making it the first and only hospital in the region to offer Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) and Valvular Heart Disease surgeries under the national health insurance program.

Through the historic signing of a Memorandum of Agreement, patients from SOCCSKSARGEN no longer have to travel to Davao or Manila to access these critical procedures. Life-saving surgeries are now available right here in General Santos City, making urgent cardiac care easier, faster, and more affordable for thousands of families.

Under the new Z-Benefit Package, PhilHealth will subsidize the following surgical procedures at SEHI:

• CABG – Coronary Artery Bypass Graft
  • Standard Risk (No Co-morbidities): ?660,000
  • Expanded Risk (With Co-morbidities): ?960,000
• Valvular Heart Disease Surgery: ?810,000

These packages also cover up to four (4) sessions of cardiac rehabilitation—an essential phase for a patient’s recovery and long-term heart health.

Joining the momentous event were Dr. Hector Zenon Leonardo P. Malate, Regional Vice President of PhilHealth Region XII; Dr. Lizamar P. Banatao, Chief of the Health Care Delivery Management Division (HCDMD); and Dr. Marites E. Pedrajas, Head of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Section (AQAS).

The Z-Benefit Package was designed to ensure that financial constraints no longer stand in the way of urgent medical treatment. By subsidizing up to ?960,000 worth of surgical care, it provides hope to many battling severe cardiac conditions.
