Bariles received a confirmation the other day that the newly renovated PAL Mabuhay Lounge at the General Santos City International Airport in Barangay Tambler is set to be inaugurated soon!
The management of the local PAL office in downtown Pedro Acharon Boulevard has been sending out invites for the Friday, March 11, 2011 Inaguration to prominent personages in the city through Branch Manager Noel Herico.
According to their invitation letter, “The Mabuhay Lounge have (sic) been redesigned and refurbished to cater to the tastes of our modern business travelers. it is equipped with some of the most useful amenities to provide comfort and relaxation before boarding the flight. There is also a buffet of light meals and refreshments to enjoy.”
The letter continues: “The Mabuhay Lounge serves passengers flying the Mabuhay Class on Philippine Airlines flights, as well as members of the Mabuhay Miles Elite and Premier Elite membership tiers.”
Wow! This is welcome news if you’re a frequent PAL Mabuhay Class flyer who before this development, could only avail of their Mabuhay Lounge privileges and perks when you’re at the NAIA in Manila. (Bariles specially adores their hot arroz caldo at the Mabuhay Lounge there especially when your flight is at 7am in the morning.)
But if you are just an ordinary mortal who go for the cheaper seats of PAL and the budget fares of Cebu Pacific, then take your place at the pre-departure lounge of the GenSan International Airport along with other members of the working class.
But do not be dismayed.
The pre-departure lounge there has also undergone renovation and is now much bigger and newly-renovated. Hopefully, it is still wifi-equipped.

Wala bang latest pic
sigh…:-(
🙁
Oh my gashhh! Aerobridges are BADLY NEEDED,…NOW NA! This is good news indeed! Pabayaan na lang ba nating nasa ganyang kalagayan ang ating sariling paliparan? The biggest in Mindanao pa naman per bakit tila yata napaka 2nd-and-a-half class ang level ng facilities…nag level up lang konte from being 3rd class prior to the renovation…hahayyy
Our Gen. Santos International Airport should become the Mindanao Hub of Air Asia Philippines!
Wow what a good news but where is now the 120 million rehab project for our lovely airport.
I urge the city government to invite more airlines to operate routes never before served to and from General Santos City. Like the GenSan-Caticlan routes at least 2 times a week. Night flights to and from GenSan, Manila and Cebu. GenSan-Laoag flight to serve the Ilocano community here and as well as reviving the connection between GenSan and Iloilo through GES-ILO flight route to reopen.
So, calling also the attention of PAL and Cebu Pacific airlines.
Toinks, during the inauguration, the PAL Pres & CEO acknowledged the fact (during his speech) that GenSan is capable of landing all their biggest aircraft and thus, have more plans to upgrade their services here. And… Hopefully with the easing of air transport laws, and with the entry of AIR ASIA Philippines (a subsidiary of Air Asia, the biggest budget carrier in Asia), they will utilize our airport as a major HUB for the BIMP-EAGA cluster… and make it as a gateway to islands down under. Let’s all collectively cross our fingers. 🙂
@Toink & Fahdingding >> Geographically wise malayo tayo sa ibang cities since we are at the bottom and its an advantage on our part to reach this cities via plane. Its affordable nowadays for a simple person to take plane, having lots of low fare/promos offered by these budget airline companies from time to time I would certainly prefered this options rather than taking by sea/land which takes time & tiring at the end of the day. We should capitalize!
dapat lang! ONLY for SUSTAINABLE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT!…nothing else matters.
These are nice prospects…
at White Knight: I SUPER DUPER SECOND YOUR MOTION!… WOE! TO ALL THOSE GENERALS AND PEOPLE OF SOCSKSARGEN WHO DO NOT PATRONIZE THEIR OWN AIRPORT AND PORTS. MAY IBA KASI KUNG SAAN SAAN PA SUMASAKAY NG EROPLANO KUNG KAYA NABABAWASAN ANG PASSENGER AND CARGO MOVEMENTS NG SARILI NATING PALIPARAN…GRRR! MGA MAARTE HINDI NAMAN BAGAY..LOLSS PEACE OUT! SA TINUORAY LANG SA ESTORYA.
Corrections: it should be GES-CATICLAN (Boracay) v.v. not GES-AKLAN. I forgot to mention CHINA & VIETNAM as potential route. The AIRLINE COMPANIES (PAL. Cebu Pacific, Airphil & Zestair) and with the support of our local gov’t units should seriously consider this “new opportunity” to tackle on. Because MORE FLIGHT DESTINATIONS = OPPORTUNITIES + INVESTMENTS + TOURISTS BOOM.
By the way I have just read in the national newspaper today (Mar12) that starting on October 20,2011 AIRPHIL EXPRESS (sister company of PAL) will be back soon to Gensan and is having ongoing promo for its maiden flight GES-MNL vice versa. Truely AIRPHIL is catching up with Cebu Pacific when it comes to promos/cheaper flights. And this is a very positive news for us Generals once again with three(3) airlines now to choose. I do hope that AIRPHIL EXPRESS, CEBU PACIFIC will consider in the near future to open more flights for the following reasons :
>GES – TAGBILARAN v.v. (GSC & nearby towns has a lot of Boholanos,includes me)
>GES -ILOILO v.v (It used to have flights before in the 90’s & many Ilonggos are here)
>GES-AKLAN v.v (For Boracay escapades, mind you a lot of socsargen’s travels)
>GES-PUERTO PRINCESA v.v. (No doubt Palawan is a must see to explore)
>GES-CDO v.v (For businessmen who wants to avoid long trip by land)
>GES-ZAMBO v.v (We have lots of frequent business traveler’s here)
>GES-SURIGAO v.v (This is untapped opportunity)
>GES-CLARK v.v (This is untapped opportunity)
And international flights destination in ASIA such as HONGKONG & SINGAPORE for we have lots of OFW’s who are going in & out of this places and perhaps direct flight to KUALA LUMPUR, THAILAND and INDONESIA for those who travels for leisure & business .
I’m not asking for a daily flights on the above mentioned places but to the least 2x-3x a week will be a good start. If we want our GSC airport terminal at par with Iloilo & Davao when it comes to facilities & modern structures then we should make our air traffic volume a year worthy enough for expansion, if we don’t then we have no business of complaining why our terminal is not that conducive as we expect of.
I DO HOPE OUR LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING THIS OPTIONS TO FIND WAYS INORDER THAT OUR AIRPORT TERMINAL WILL BECOME MORE ATTRACTIVE. The World is keep on changing & we have to keep on innovating…we should not stop but keep on improving for the best service we could offer. You would agree with me that Gensan have all the resources & potential in the making to become a GREAT CITY someday, we just have to tap it correctly, Right?
it looks like the lounge in naia 2 and in cebu specially the decorative cabinet…niceeee…di na tinipid ang space.much bigger compared sa luma at amoy bago na hahahahaha…kaya lang hindi tinted ang glass nakakailang kumilos sa loob kasi nakikita ka nga mga economy class passenger
mabuhay lounge doenst matter by the way… it is still ordinary than other airport lounges… check out bangkok air even the flight is domestic but passenger is treated more than the PAL Mabuhay Lounge can offer…
Good News indeed!
At least, we are now seeing the improvements on our airport…
More, more more….
MAGANDANG GENSAN!
sighs…kailan kaya magkakaron ng second daily frequency ang PAL to and from GES and MNL?…sana may night flights na sila to GenSan from Manila to serve balikbayans arriving in Manila in the afternoon para hindi na kailangan pa mag overnight stay sila sa Manila pag uwi ng GenSan.
wow, this is great news sir avel… this is really one of the great development in our very own gensan intl airport… i wonder how it looks like! but in fairness to the management of PAL, this is a good opportunity and good strategy to cater more customers… well, this is just one thing to be proud of… ‘Padayon og Uswag’ General Santos! Proud to be Generals.. Proud to be Noypi! (^_^)
