Imelda Grass or more popularly known as Imelda Flower could be seen sprouting all around Gensan. Legend says that it was former First Lady Imelda Marcos who introduced it here in the 70s upon noticing that the area was one hot, arid desert. This thorny grass which is also known as Imelda creeper thrives well in sandy areas and needs minimal water.
These photos were taken at the oval plaza one afternoon with the tents being readied for “Pasko Sa Gensan 2007” at the background.

I know that most of the questions about this plant were very old but to satisfy everyone’s thirst for knowledge here’s a bit of info about Imelda grass.
Scientific name: Tribulus terrestris
See wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribulus_terrestris
This plant is annoying as hell with tires getting pierced but this plant is one of the best sexual enhancing herbs in the world.

@Manoy Avel, yellow creepers man yata tawag sa sagbot na yan. Sabi ng titser namin, nung 80s daw lumitaw yan dito. nagbloom daw sila nung Pipol Power Rebolushen 1986 kaya mali yatang tawagin na imelda grass yan. ajejeje also, perwisyo ang tunok nyan sa baysikols, daming gulong nabulkit dahil sa sagbot na yan. ajejeje
I’VE seen it in towns of sarangani too,not only in gensan. when we had our vegatation analysis in maasim,we had encounter this type of grass…..but i think imelda grass is abundant in gensan.. dami nito sa oval plaza talaga..
i miss uccp-pcsl dati kasi marami kami nyang flowers sa skul///
those are really good shots of the imelda grass… anyway, it only blooms on really hot areas like gensan and the middle east. the hotter the area is, the more this grass blooms into its yellow image…

Actually nabebwesit ako sa tanim na yan ang daming tinik marami yan sa paligid ng bahay namin I find ways how remove that plants its exotic and not god to children.
I have seen one like that here in the Middle East. Ang kaibahan lang nila ay walang tinik ang tumutubo rito. Siguro naka develop sila ng bagong variety nitong tanim na ito. In fact this summer time they have started planting this type of plant in their round abouts and saidewalk planters. 🙂

Hi gensanite! I haven’t seen them anywhere else too, whether in Davao, Iloilo, Bacolod, Cagayan or even Koronadal, 60 kms away. Cool huh?
I might as well suggest to make this the official CITY FLOWER. What do you think?
