In a magnanimous move, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of General Santos City unanimously approved this morning the resolution of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council for the appropriation of Five Hundred Thousand pesos (P500,000.00) each for the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan devastated by Typhoon Sendong last weekend.
The CDRRMC is chaired by Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio.
She has also instructed the Office of the City Social Service and Development to accept donations for the survivors at their building beside the Oval Plaza. The CSWDO will be open 24/7 until December 31, 2011 for this purpose.
The first batch of donations will be transported by at least four trucks to Northern Mindanao early tomorrow morning, December 22, 2011.
The second batch will depart GenSan on December 26, 2011.
On a related note, Mayor Darlene Custodio has also issued a memo canceling the Christmas Party of the City Hall employees (numbering 3,500++) in deference to the victims of this recent calamity. Instead, a portion of the budget for the party will be used to purchase more relief goods for CDO and Iligan.
If you are truly a general, please help our sister cities by donating in kind or in cash and make them still feel the spirit of Christmas in their hearts.
Let us also show to the world that in our own small way, GenSan cares!
@TOINKS: Gensan can survive in any calamities as long as it has
SAR equipments, concrete disaster protocols, proper coordination and communication to the public for awareness, enough numbers of skilled emergency/rescue personnel, conducting inter-department emergency drills in disasters with multiple casualty incidence from time to time.
[…] fairness, Manny Pacquiao slashed 1million pesos from his pork barrel to donate to the Typhoon Sendong survivors. He has also reportedly ordered his staff to deliver truckloads of relief goods to […]
GOD FORBIDS! if ever man sa atin mangyari ang nangyari sa CDO and Iligan cities…handa kaya ang GenSan City?
I highly commended our CDRRMC and City Government Agencies for fast and efficient response for those victims of storm Sendong. Truly admirable act by our officers. “GenSan Cares” is also a good and eye catching campaign slogan because it represents the entire contituents of Gensan rather than using the a common politician’s name such as in Davao del Sur province. May the true spirit of Christmas lives in us.
