Last September 2008, I blogged about the plan to put up a Regional Consular Office of the Department of Foreign Affairs here in General Santos City, following a directive from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. That article elicited a lot of positive responses from Bariles Republic’s readers, especially those availing of their passporting services.
Now, according to General Santos City Tourism Officer Cora Tito, a site has finally been found for the proposed office which will be called the Regional Consular Office of the DFA.
After weeks of scouting for the venue, she added that DFA Davao Consular Officer Daniel Te has revealed that his bosses has opted for the vacant portion of the Annex Building of Gaisano Mall of GenSan. This is the leftmost 2-storey unit of the building which also houses Shakey’s Restaurant, Uno Cafe and Big Chow Chinese Resto.
On December 2, 2008, top honchos from DFA Manila, among them Consular Officer ASec Domingo Lucenario, Personnel Officer ASec Corazon Yap Baijin will be flying in to seal the deal with the Gaisanos for the use of their building.
And yes, before I forget, they want to open the office to the public before Christmas 2008. 🙂

Sorry.
ilang days mag parenew ng passport sir??..thx and More power
ako po ay isang OFW and i’ll be going home for vacation by december sa gensan. may passport will be expiring on April 2011 which means that I have to renew it before going back to work because as far as I know, anybody will not be allowed to leave Philippines if the Passport expires within 6 months. Am I right? Another thing, is DFA Consular Office in Gensan still operating in the same venue at Gaisano Mall compound? Thanks
@Leo, yes. You need to renew your passport when it is less than six months away from its expiration date or you can’t be allowed to travel outside of Southeast Asia. With the Asean region, they are not that strict but beyond that would be a problem. The DFA Consulate in GenSan is still open Mondays-Fridays. Be sure to be there before 8am Monday for your priority # to be issued to you. Good luck!

i firmly believe Gensan has the capability to sustain and attract more bigger industries. one to count is the Economic Free Zone ni PacMan… that’s a BILLION PESO project…
hooah!
hey…gensan is different from butuan…
merun nabang POEA sa general santos?can you give me me the adress please? thank you
[…] recently renewed his passport and eventually received his new machine-readable copy, thanks to the Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office here in General Santos City, headed by Mr. Daniel […]
God bless PRC! GOD SPEED DFA! eehehhe
has the GenSan-based DFA already opened?
Wow! Finally my location na. Another great news for the Gensan constituents and the nearby and no so nearby town of SocSkSargGen as well. Lucky for Gaisano Mall too for this is another advantage for them. Well, they deserved to be chosen also because of their strategic location and comfort for the passport applicants and ang mag renew too especially. I just hope na sana the applicants will be as much as comfortable and easy for them to access and get their passport right away without much adue. Compared to Davao, medyo mag sacrifice ka talaga because of so many applicants from other cities/town.
I saw the venue and what it needs are shaded areas for the long lines of people everyday. The DFA in Davao has a big receiving area. I hope that this one in Gensan has a wide waiting room too. 🙂
Good news to all frequent travelers and ofws of gensan. 🙂
You’re right there myk. There’s no stopping now the Tuna Capital! 🙂
….Anong gusto mo Sir ???? …..He..he..he
@Ram –
This is really good news kuya avel…it’s a real pain in
the butt for generals to travell all the way to davao to
get/renew passport kaya I’m sure many generals will
be happy with this news…
Hahaha! That’s true. Pain in the butt … that’s what you get for the 3 hour ride by bus to Davao City. 🙂
Now that would be really good for the region. I am hoping for that too jasper. 🙂
Vel,
Thanks alot for announcing it…!
But it’s not December 2, rather its December 5. Asec Corazon Yap Bahjin (Personnel Officer), Asec Domingo Lucenario (Consular Officer) , Asec Usop of DFA Mindanao (based in Davao) and 2 more officials from DFA Manila are coming for final occular inspection of the area.
It’s my pet project- now coming to reality!
Maganda talaga ang Gensan!
Mabuhay tayong lahat!
Thanks for the corrections Cora Gwapa. Kudos to you!!!! 🙂
This is a very good news and a very good Christmas gift for all of us SOCSARGEN residents…….. Thanks Sir Avel for keeping us informed…Advance Merry Christmas!!!
Merry Christmas too Marino. Don’t forget your gift to me. 🙂
Less gastos, less time to process & very convenient pa ang location. Thanks to all who made it happened.
@Tale –
We have to be thankful to Mayor Jun Acharon who has been working hard to get this on the road and to his tourism officer Cora Tito for liaising the talks between DFA and his local government. Thanks rin Tale for commenting. Milagro at napadalaw ka…hehehe! 🙂
wow! that’s great news.
We no longer have to go to Davao or be one of the poor ones waiting for mobile passporting events at the City Hall.
@lexXx –
hello! That is right. This will not only save us time and money but also the hassles of lining up at the city hall once every quarter. 🙂
Sir Avel pag mag operations na and DFA office in Gensan ibig ba nitong sabihin no need na to go to Davao?
@jasper0127 –
yes sir! All your passporting needs will be processed and released here. Great huh? 🙂
Its a great honor for the people of General Santos for having DFA Consular Office in Gensan not only a good news but also a Blessings to all of us.
this is really, really great news! Finally, after a long search for an office space, they finally found one, strategic pa talaga ang location.
@jinky –
you’re right! They couldn’t have chosen a better site. Beside a mall, imagine? People can just wait it out inside the air-conditioned Shakeys, Big Chow or Uno Cafe in the same building. Super mega convenient! Or maybe do some shopping across the parking area at Gaisano. Nice, nice, nice! 🙂
