In the recently concluded 28th Alpha Phi Omega Biennial National General Assembly, held in Dumaguete City, notable collegiate chapters, alumni associations, regional groupings who performed exceptionally above the rest, for 2013-2015 were officially recognized.

For the best Alumni Association (community-based category), our group, the APO GAAM (General Santos City Alumni Association Maharlika) went home with the award.

The APO- GAAM officers led by President Gerry Arbis were elected into office two years ago and have conducted community service projects not only in General Santos City but in other parts of Region 12 and elsewhere as well. Some of these were in collaboration with the local government of General Santos City, Sarangani Province, the ABS-CBN, Bantay Bata 163, the Regional and Gensan PNP, the Boy Scouts of the Philippines – Gensan, the RED CROSS Chapter of Gensan, the local DepED Office, local sports association, and many more.

Also in photo (L-R) are APO GAAM officer & this blog’s author Avel Manansala, newly-elected APO National President Luis Paredes, Best Regional Area Director Awardee Roger Pialago, newly-elected Exec. VP Daboy Fernandez, and hardworking APO-GAAM members Russel Denila and Rene Capareda.

These, plus the support for their administration from both the Gensan-based alumni and collegiate members of APO has encouraged APO-GAAM to submit their bid to host the 29th Alpha Phi Omega Biennial National General Assembly in 2017, which aims to gather 5,000 members from all over the world!

APO-GAAM has already gotten the written support of Gensan Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera, Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, South Cotabato First District Representative Jun Acharon and Sarangani Governor Steve Solon for the bid and have secured the FREE use of the city’s biggest airconditioned indoor stadiums, among other things.

And so, as we congratulate the APO Alumni Association of GenSan in their victory, here’s hoping that the 2017 Biennial National General Assembly will be awarded to them since they have been readying for it for the past two years, right after the 27th BNGA in Legazpi City.
