GenSan News Online Mag is releasing the latest photos Bariles took of the ongoing construction of the multi-million SM City GenSan project.
Work on the mall started late last year but at the rate that the construction company has been at it 24/7, we might be able to see the opening of the newest mall of GenSan moved earlier to the last quarter of 2011.
At any rate, the widening of the San Miguel Street (which locals now refer to to SM Avenue) traversing Santiago Boulevard and J. Catolico Avenue is almost finished after SOCOTECO turned over the portion of their property at the corner of Jose Catolico Avenue which is now part of the road.

Once it is finished, the 4-lane road will also have its own center island which SM GenSan will landscape and maintain.

Now here are the other latest photos of the SM GenSan construction…

The last SM GenSan photo below was shot from the 3rd story of a building right across San Miguel Street.

We will be sharing more photos and interesting tidbits about SM GenSan soon.
Watch out for it!
…and speaking of bridges, unta very soon naa nay connecting bridges to the airplanes ang atong airport…hahayyy…
@Kennethroots: Yes, naa jud connecting bridge… ug unta na pud bridge connected sa ila proposed hotel…
@Toinks: Yes!
Kabalo naka FENG SHUI…
#42.Wow very inspiring ang balita mo kaibigan ah. Unsa ba jud naa sa Gensan that these malls take seriously their competitions head to head? Well all I could say at the end tayo mga mga consumers from Gensan & nearby towns of SocKSarGen are the winners, isn’t?
#43.According to Mr. Bariles postcript last year, “our SM City Gensan” GFA would be at 100,000 sq.m. more or less. Which ever is the real one, what is important is I can feel that our SM would be different from other SM’s throughout the phils in a sense that its carefully planned, designed suited to the General’s unique taste of shopping. Were so lucky because SM has a high respect on us General’s shoppers that they don’t want us to settle anything less.
Good to know that but what happen to NCCC rumors
@Rhomer: Tinuod daw nga naay “Connecting Bridge”?
I heard na binili na raw ng Shoemart ang property ng Villa Funeral Homes on the other side of Santiago blvd. at a price tag of Php 17Million. The said funeral home has transfered somewhere in Katangawan at tinulungan pa sila ng Shoemart sa paghahanap ng feasible na malilipatan. I admire them for that.
Now, since pagmamay-ari na ng Shoemart ang forner Villa Funeral…I so wonder anu kaya gagawin nila sa location na yun…hmmm very strategic rin in a sense…will there be some sort of bridge to connect the mall to that area?…could it become the possible location of a rumored international chain of coffee shoppe? hmmm…I could just speculate though. lets hope for the best!
Magandang GenSan!
@Rhomer: THE WAR HAS JUST BEGUN between SM and KCC….
Gaisano and Robinsons… Magpapahuli ba kayo??? 🙂
2012: SM City General Santos will become the biggest mall in GENSAN and SocCSkSarGen with a Gross Floor Area of 88,675 square meters. (SM City GENSAN is almost thrice as big as Robinson’s Place GENSAN) 🙂
But KCC might surpass SM after their expansion… We’ll see… YAHOO!
Source: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1283937&page=23
its confirmed … KCC MALL will be expanding … they will build a 2 storey building in the lot (owned by marfin tan) adjascent to its current mall … starting from the back of the old mcdo building until the current safi arcade area … until end of this year na lang ang safi mart, rcbc, rojon and the safi arcade … the old mcdo building was leased by a davao company only good for 3 yrs … after that, KCC will lease it ……………. its true, KCC is expanding (not to mention the ongoing improvements its been doing in its current department store) to compete with other malls …………… let the mall wars begin !
HAHAISSS. Gihimo to nila bisan walay mga manakupay. 🙂
Mirisi sa driver…. Nakakainis talaga yung mga ganon, walang disiplina…
with various malls here and there. . . . . the most terrible part in the city development is the undiscipline drivers of public utilities. Look how it does. . . . everyone in the city can visible see the stupidity of drivers loading and unloading just in the middle of the road unmindful to the safety of the passengers. . .
One time riding the jeep and alighting infront of BPI pioneer avenue, the driver said sige baba na kayo. . ..
the driver could not do anything . . . . .
I completely agree to Mr. Bariles we are not left behind in terms of blockbuster movies shown simultaneously release worldwide/nationwide in our city. I have noticed it many years ago in our movie houses here. Even when GMall GenSan cinema has it before, upto date naman tayo. We are truely lucky standard of living is not that high and we enjoyed the same amenities in other major cities. Great!
Oh well, that is good to hear kung ganun nga. Once kasi habang nagbabasa ako ng dyaryo sa list of movies showing in a cinema of a certain big mall chain ay may ibang movies na showing na sa mga malalaking cities pero ang sa gensan ay wala pa. it seems kasi na either kulang talaga siguro ang 4 cinemas lang or sadyang pinahuli ang pagpapalabas nito sa ating lungsod.
@Toinks, just try checking the MOVIE LINE-UP for KCC Cinemas every Wednesday or sometimes, Friday at the right sidebar of this blog. At least one or two blockbuster movies have just opened, same time as in the Big City. Anyway, one reason for the simultaneous release of a movie nationwide/worldwide is because the producers/distributors want to show the movies to the rest of the world immediately, before the PIRATES can have a chance to copy them and sell them at much cheaper rates on DVD.
I prefer to watch cinema in Gensan than Manila kasi ang mahal talaga.
I just dont know if meron tayo ritong mga urban planners sa ating City Planning ang development office.
@ayeng: All the malls in GenSan must keep abreast of the feasible cinema rates, at the least, to keep healthy business going. Ever wonder why medyo may kamurahan ang sine dito is because medyo late nang naipapalabas ang mga movies dito lalong lalo na yung mga box office hit movies from Holliwood. Im sure nobody would want to be left behind pagdating sa usapang movies diba? Tayo naman ay pagdating sa entertainment we will pay the price no matter what basta lang ba satisfied tayo at talagang nag eenjoy tayo.
@Toinks, for the past few years, most Hollywood blockbusters have gone on simultaneous opening across the world and this includes GenSan. This means that when a blocbuster movie opens in the US or in Manila, sabay na rin ang GenSan. And since we’re a day ahead sa US, madalas nauuna pa tayo dito sa Pinas, kasama na ang GenSan. And inspite of that, MURA pa rin talaga ang cinema rates natin… in fact, our moviehouses are the cheapest FIRST-RUN CINEMAS in the Philippines.
@Mark. Please read to my #14 comment. I don’t believe that our buildings here in Gensan will limit to only 10th floors. I heard before the limit was till 5th floor. I think the building code in our city will become obsolete if once the entry of various world’s renowned construction developer, structural designs will put up here in our city.
@ayeng. tama ka talaga, movies in Manila, Cebu & Davao are damned expensive talaga. Masuerte pa rin tayo dito, we enjoy the same world class amenities but with a lesser fee. P165 ticket? huwag naman sana. Puro pirated at cable nalang ako manuod parati pag ganun na ang movie price natin dito. Hahaha.
Tama! Where is AUB?
@toinks: One more thing, I also think it is a good idea if our city government will also pave and beautify the side walks of Santiago boulevard with all the parking spaces and waiting sheds (for Loading and Unloading purposes) just like in our Pioneer Avenue.
Traffic Signal system would also be needed for SANTIAGO – LAUREL junctions…. Sayang di na maexpand ang laurel (at least in that area) to accommodate more vehicles.
abangan ang sunod na kabanata sa GENSAN MALL WARS .. more competition = more improvements …………. haha !
naku, what a good news na 4 state of the arts theatre would be housed inside sm gsc, but the downside of it…magmahal na talaga ang sine dito sa atin beloved na gensan…nakikita ko na maging 165 or up ang tiket ng sine, i think they will prize it like that of big cities like in Manila, nakakaloka ang tiket ng sine dun…everytime im in manila i would never watch movie there, sinasabi ko sa sarili ko …hay sa gensan ko na lang to panuorin, mura dun ang sine…imagine 185 and above tiket dun at kung sa trinoma ka manuod, naku di bababa sa 225 pesoses kaloka! kaya sa Robinson ko na lang pinapanuod ang mga magagandang films at least dto ang 120 mo 3D na ang ordinary 92.00 dun ang 3D 250 kakaloka ang presyo……
@fahdingding: ah, cge po it my pleasure to join in skyscrapercity.com… (^_^)
@white knight: yup its possible that SM will have its 7-storey fascility… coz i think that the max. level of constructing of a high – storey building here in our city based on our building code is until 10 storey..
@ thanks fahdingding for the clarification. So its not a mall or hotel, its a carpark pala. But anyway if this is confirmed then still its one of a kind pa sa Mindanao, isn’t it?
The suggestion of Toinks is laudable. Hope our city gov’t would seriously take into considerations of putting footbridge, loading & unloading zones (just like in the pioneer that is organize) along santiago blvd in order that smooth traffic will be experienced always.
I bet that SM City General Santos’ 7-storey car parking building would not really mean it will look tall as a real 7-storey building used for formal human habitation. The parking building’s floor to floor height is relatively lower than that of a normal building kasi puro sasakyan lang naman ang gagamit nito. The parking building’s entire floor profile would also be slightly inclined. This way nagkakaroon na ng ramp at hindi pa hirap ang mga sasakyan sa pagpanik-panaog sa loob ng parking building. Sana may maayos lang na ventilation like keeping the sides of the building open and it would be very interesting to know on what aesthetic treatment in terms of architecture are they going to use para sa building envelope ng parking building para naman hindi masagwa tignan sa labas.
I just hope too that there will be an automated parking system wherein may mga signal lights sa bawat parking slots in colors red-for taken or green-for vacant para naman di na mahirapan ang mga drivers sa kakahanap ng lugar na bakante.
SSC post by “KARMIC” that would complement sir WhiteKnight insider info about SM:
“SM City General Santos (official name) will boast of a seven-story parking building.
The vacant lot in front of SM is owned by STI College, for their expansion.
SM will provide the traffic signal system on the Santiago Blvd.-San Miguel junction.
A pedestrian overpass is not yet in the plans because there is no immediate need for it. But it is considered by the LGU as the need arises.
Santiago Blvd. is currently being widened into a six-lane road.
And KCC will build a BPO Center on the lot currently occupied by SAFI Arcade.” – Karmic
Sana magkatotoo lahat to… God Bless GENSAN! 🙂

GO Kenneth… WE’ll wait for you there…. God Bless…
@Whiteknight: Sir, that’s an AWESOME info… 7 – storey SM building… WOW!
@Mark: Sa dami nagsasabi especially those who are connected with KCC… malamang totoo na talaga ito…
About the Hotel… Kuya Avel already blogged it out before… so expect na lang tayo soon for KCC to unleash its BIG SECRETS …. 🙂
Mark why don’t you join SKYSCRAPERCITY.COM (Gensan thread) for more updates on GENSAN…Doon namin nakukuha mga latest buzz sa maganda nating syudad….
Wow . Such a wonderful news . 😀
@nj_than | San niyo po ba nakalap ang news na yan ?? :))
@fahdingding. Thanks for the update of “who’s who” in the SM tenants. Very interesting indeed. How about Krespy Kreme? any news? Honestly, I prefer Krespy over Starbucks to come in, its a sure hit. Saturated na ang coffee shops natin dito as of this time.
I have another exciting news about SM City GenSan fever. An insider told me that they are targetting a soft opening come this December 2011 for their Grocery & partly Mall department. According to this informant, SM is also building a seven (7) storey high once these three (3) level mall completed next year 2012 in the span of three (3) years. I forgot to ask him if this 7 storey building occupies purely mall or a hotel/condo,etc. This is still located inside their six (6) hectates property along San Miguel St, back of Socoteco/Gaisano area. Would it be exciting?
If these will come true, the SM City seven storey mark tallest edifice so far in the city of Gensan. East Asia & Sydney Hotels are only 5 storey high, if i’m not mistaken. Would this be the beginning of High Rise Towers in our city? Impossible? Not really, look at DUBAI, UAE, SINGAPORE, EUROPE, JAPAN, HK airports to name a few, certainly ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE even though its a common knowledge that our foundation here is weak. In the age of HIGH TECH, nothing is impossible & its proven already a decade ago.
By the way what is also inspiring is VisMin is really booming lots of investor are coming. Here are the updates of Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo developments that make us proud. Pls. click. Thanks…

@nj_than: tlga? so totoo tlga na mag.expand ang kcc to its parking area using a connecting bridge to access?? ung hotel nmn, yup i heard that kind of rumor.. pero for now we’ll have to be positive and expect for the good things happening in our city.. new face, new look ika.nga.. Magandang Gensan! (^_^)
@NJ Than: KCC will again regain the “BIGGEST MALL IN SOCSKSARGEN” title after the expansion…. I believe mas malaki ang SM kesa KCC…
P.S. News from SSC:
Someone has informed us that SM City Gensan will house 4 state of the art cinemas with 500 seating capacity each. WOW!
@ WhiteKnight: STARBUCKS?
Here is a post of my fellow forumer GENESISHAHA of SSC regarding possible tenants of SM City GENSAN:
“Thanks. Kinda newbie here in the forum. My friend recommended me to post some updates regarding the construction of SM in Gen San. The cranes (at least three) Monolith Cranes are used in Abreeza (Davao) during the construction. It indicates that SM has massive construction in the city. I’ll share nalang some tenants that perhaps may occupy the mall. Figaro, Blugre Coffee, Gloria Jeans Coffee, Odyssey, Astro Vision / Astro Plus, Bayo, Bossinni, Confetti, Folded and Hung, Freeway, Human, Itti, Manels, Oxygen, Karimadon, Maldita, Mendrez, Adidas, Alberto, Bench Fix Salon, Esprit, Florsheim, Giordano, Guess, Baby Guess, Hush Puppies, Let’s Face It, more more more. Hindi ko muna ibubulgar ‘yung iba kasi mawawala na ang inyong thrill. Haha.”
hehehe… nasanay ako sa text… another pala…
mag expand din nag anader mall with connecting bridge… and hotel…
Thanks kuya for the much appreciated effort made. 24/7 na talaga ang SM construction nila. Teaser naman. Everybody is excited to see what’s inside of SM City General Santos.
Nice update sir avel….
SM City GENSAN is slowly taking shape….
Yehey!
can’t wait to see the outcome of SM GENSAN!!!!
wew, it is really exciting to see the improvement and the ongoing developments at SM construction site… now it makes more exciting when I passed by the San Miguel Ave.(formerly San Miguel St.,) that they almost finished the construction of the add’l 2 lane road given by SM in part of its land as being divided by a center island also being developed and enhanced by SM… I assume that this road will open soon to cater the motoring public to give way a much more convenient and wide public road for all the GEnerals!! and I agree with sir avel that SM City Gen. Santos will open soon for the they are working even late night or shall we say 24/7… wew, cant wait for the opening! Thanks sa updates sir avel.. Magandang Gensan! (^_^)
Yey! Looking good, something big is happening in the future of Gensan. I hope the water and power supply is also doing well.
All the best to the locals of Gensan. I can’t wait to be one of the residents.
