[dropcap]R[/dropcap]ecognizing the importance of education and the spirit of volunteerism, SM Supermalls is embarking on an Adopt-A-School program that is aimed at rehabilitating and improving school facilities of the different public elementary schools nationwide.
As a way of giving back to community, SM employees pooled their own funds and extended their service to conduct Brigada Eskwela last June 4, 2016, Saturday to a chosen school of their community. This activity is simultaneous in all SM Supermalls being part of their Employee Volunteerism Program (EVP).
More than twenty employees volunteered from SM City General Santos which was held at Balite Elementary School. The employees cleaned up and repainted some of the classrooms including the newly-renovated stage of the school. They also donated cleaning materials and first aid kits for the students and teachers.
The school has produced a Valedictorian graduate of batch 1999, Ms. Rose Fatima Manlangit, who became an engineer and hired as Building Administration Officer of SM Gensan. “I am privileged to have given a chance to go back here and serve my Alma Mater. I am also proud that I am an employee of SM that shows more concern to the community through this kind of activity,” Ms. Manlangit said.
Ms. Jonalyn M. Lim, the principal of Balite Elementary School was very grateful to SM that they were chosen to be this year’s Adopt-a-School recipient of SM City General Santos.
Adopt-A-School program will be implemented all year round as it may include assistance to schools and their communities during times of emergencies.
