Every year, in time for the Kalilangan Festival on the last week of February in General Santos City , local AM radio station RGMA and its FM affiliate Campus Radio, conduct a singing competition called “Singing for Peace in Mindanao”. Unlike the usual talent competitions which are a dime a dozen in the Philippines, this one pits former nemesis in the battlefield – members of the police and the military versus former rebels.
As far as I know, this is the only one of its kind in the country. I have never missed a single staging and year after year, I am always enthralled by the singing prowess of the contestants from both sides of the fence who chose to fight it out not with guns and bullets this time but with their singing and stage presence.
This year, the battle will be staged on February 25, 2008 at the Oval Plaza Stage.
I hope you could come and experience this noble and exciting event. It is Free to the public by the way, as part of the official events of the 2008 Kalilangan Festival which is in commemoration of the 69th Foundation Anniversary of General Santos City.
