[dropcap]B[/dropcap]eing the non-athletic type, I visit Mr. Bigshot Badmintion Courts not to play badmintion or basketball but to dine at its restaurant cum bar with my friends.
There’s always something new to discover there and its unique offerings of ostrich and crocodile dishes can only be found here. Nowhere in the Soccsksargen area are these exotic and surprisingly tasty and delicious stuff available elsewhere.
That is why when owner Kuya Bebot Haw invited me and a few friends over to visit Mr. Bigshot’s Pensoy’s Resto Grill, located right outside the main activity courts, I was ready to dine on my old favorites and discover new surprises. And boy was I really delighted!
OSTRICH DISHES
Heading the list of their new set of menu is their ostrich burger, available in two sizes, the smaller Bibo Ostrich Burger (P135 with Cola) and the larger Galante Ostrich Burger (P450). Take note that this is ostrich and, hence the quite pricey costs. And besides, their ostrich burgers taste just like beef (!), is low in fat and that makes them even more extraordinary!
We were served Ostrich Prime Steak and it was my first time to try it. The steak had just the right peppery sweetness to it and the meat was tender. Guess what? This is a fitting replacement for beef if you are tired of the usual stuff. At P450 (200 grams), Pensoy Restaurant Grill’s Ostrich Prime Steak is a steal.
Pensoy also has its own pasta dish, the OSPAGHETTI (200 grams, P145 with Coke). Yes, you guessed it right. Instead of beef, it uses ostrich meat! Isn’t that ingenious?
CROCODILE DELIGHTS
According to a joke I heard somewhere, there are two places in Gensan where you can find crocodiles (or BUWAYA): at the National Highway and at Bigshot Badminton Courts! Hehe!
Making Mr. Bigshot famous this side of the region is their unique crocodile dishes which are high in protein but low in fat. Right now, its menu has expanded to include CROCO SISIG, CROCO BACK RIBS, COCO TAPA and CROCO WALI.
We were only able to partake of the first two and I must say, the Croco Sisig tastes just like FISH(!) while the Croco Back Ribs had the consistency of chicken(!). In short, they’re flavorful and satisfyingly exquisite you wouldn’t know that you’re eating crocodile meat. (CLICK ON EACH IMAGE FOR A LARGER VIEW.)
Mr. Bigshot’s iconic fruit sidings, the DILIKAGUAPO is still a bestseller and we couldn’t have enough of it. It is basically a healthy salad concoction of Kuya Bebot and its name is the combination of all its ingredients: Dilis, Guava and Pomelo.
SUB-ZERO BEER
The best part of our visit is when Kuya Bebot served us his sub-zero beer. This is actually beer chilled to a negative zero temperature inside a customized freezer. Chilled this way, beer is easier and more refreshing to drink and you can hardly taste the alcohol in it. Here’s a photo below showing the temperature of the sub-zero beer served to us.
Our short visit to Pensoy’s Grill and Mr. Bigshot Badminton Court won’t be complete without a tour inside the humongous warehouse that serves as its main activity area. We were pleased to find out that aside from badminton, basketball, billiards, futzal and volleyball, people can now play ARCHERY at the newly-built ARCHERY RANGE.
Right now, the Gensan and Koronadal Archery Teams play and practise here under the able guidance of Coach Dave Fuentes, who is also open to private coaching to interested wanna-be archers.
Here are some photos of the archery range. (CLICK ON EACH IMAGE FOR A LARGER VIEW.)
I am happy to note that Mr. Bigshot has continued to sustain its clients’ interest by way of re-imaging their food and introducing newer features to their services. With Pensoy’s Restaurant and Grill ready to delight diners with its upgraded menu of exotic fare of Croco and Ostrich dishes and with the addition of an Archery Range inside its activity area, it will continue to be Gensan’s leading sports arena in years to come.
Mr. Bigshot Badminton and Basketball Courts (its new full name) is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am to 10pm. It is located at NCCC Compound, National Highway, GenSan.
