About two weeks ago, a new TV commercial featuring World Boxing Champ Manny Pacquiao promoting the local gin brand, Ginebra San Miguel started airing in millions of homes in the Philippines.
This time, Manny’s famous mother, Dionisia Pacquiao also made her appearance, showing herself near the very end, providing the laughs in what is otherwise, a very common plot of a commercial. San Miguel Corporation, which owns Ginebra could have chosen a better storyline. Still, Bariles is giving them credit for finally utilizing Mommy Dionisia’s fame and capitalizing on her close relationship with her son.
To her credit too, Mommy Dionisia gives it her all and acts like a seasoned performer, playing the perfect foil to Manny’s “caught-in-the-act” partying character.
Then, this week, another TV ad came out from the son and mother team, this time promoting Magnolia ice cream and milk, owned by the same company, San Miguel Corporation. Again, Manny and Dionisia Pacquiao’s comic timing came out well.
Undoubtedly, because of these TV ads, new TV commercial queen, Dionisia and her son Manny have surely wrenched the “Best Mother and Child Comedy Team” trophy from Annabelle and Ruffa Gutierrez.
Expect more commercials from this duo.
