Scouring through the pageviews and comments that my posts have garnered over the past few months, I have noticed that my article about Robinsons Gen. Santos tops it all when it comes to the # of readers and responses.
As of this writing, this post which came out two months ago on June 20, 2008 has already been visited 1,634 times and has received 147 comments. Whew!
I never realized how very much welcome this development is to the people of GenSan, who make up bulk of my readers until faced with these data. And judging from the latest comments, they are hungry for more news updates about what should be the biggest mall in GenSan next year (before SM GenSan opens its doors a year later perhaps?).
And so, I tried to pull some strings, sent out a few email and got what I wanted – Robinsons’s artist’s rendition of how the Robinsons General Santos would look. Here it is, faithful readers: (click on the image for a larger view)
@bariles –
Thank you kuya Avel for your response. Never expect to received comments from you these fast. Its just my comments, being a true bloodied Generals. We all wish for progress in our city and we can see how excited are the people of Gensan with the coming of this respected investors from the north. My only wish is that despite of all of this development, Gensan will remain a “province within a city”, meaning it will not lost its identity of being a less polluted city, simple life, affordable foods and commodities, rents, fares, green trees, etc.
Mabuhay ka Bariles Republic for your timely website and your passion to serve the Generals at your best. Keep it up and more power!
White Knight ^_^
Hi White knight! Thanks for your response.
If you have been going around the city lately, you will notice that aside from that building of Robinsons being built, the local government has been implementing a lot of projects which would redound to the benefit of the people.
The National Highway-Santiago and National Highway-Pendatun traffic lights system will be in place by next month, which I will be writing about soon.
The plaza across the city hall will soon be improved starting this month at the tune of P22 million.
With regard to the Queen Tuna Park, again, have you been there lately?
The local government cannot do these in one sitting because we still have bigger concerns like housing, water for the rural areas, electricity, school buildings, among others. But again, tourism spots concerns are issues which it does not sleep on too. Hinay-hinay nga lang.
Madali mangarap but we also have budgets to consider. But rest assured, kung nagbabasa man dito ang mga opisyales natin, they are doing something about it.
Hi jm! I think it’s rather unfair for the local officials of our city to be compared with others. With all the posts I have been writing here detailing the improvements of our city, slowly but surely, we are on our way there.
It’s not easy governing over a growing city such as Gensan so we just need the patience and most important, the support that our local government needs from us. Let us just not rely on them to do the work. Let us also do our share.
Thanks for your timely comments. 🙂
addition to that white knight, i think Davao’s local Govt has it’s strong political will which Gensan Local Gov’t don’t have…
sana nga maayos ang queen tuna park…
Sir Avel,
Gensan people indeed are undeniably excited of this dev’t happened in our city right now. Two big Malls are set to come in our place and its a welcome development talaga. I just hope that our city government will continue to upgrade on the following:
1.) Our infrastructures- continued widening of roads to four (4) lanes including repair of century old roads, modern bus terminal. Cemented shoulder lane is a must due to dusty climate we have here. and its been a perinnial complaint of visitors & locals. Design more of pioneer avenue facades to santiago, national highways, etc.
2.) Our policies & regulations should be reviewed and strictly be implemented.(such as implementation of road courtesies, no smoking in public jeepneys & places, ban on habal2x & tricycles in highways & major thoroughfares, add jeepney routes in all stragetic places for a fast transportations means & functional taxis.)More traffic lights particularly along pendatun & laurel sts., pendatun & national higheay, santiago & national highway (front of st. elizabeth) and santiago & magsaysay avenue (UCPB).
3.) Develop the whole strech of Lion’s beach (from petron to landing fish) into a world class park, if possible to be designed by a top engineers & architects complete with a jogging lane, beach volleball, open concert hall, floating beach retaurant (ala isla parilla type) on both sides- showcase of tuna & other gensan’s best aqua foods (price should be affordable), with police visibility and good comfort rooms (CR).
I have noticed that unlike other cities, wala tayong maipagmalaki sa ating visitors when they come here. Malls are not tourist drawers to be frank. We have to develop places here in Gensan that is naturally innent in our city. Marami tayong mga untop places waiting to be developed. Also, discipline is a key to a city progress. If we look at Davao City’s highly impressive development right now, their success is primarily due to their Govt’s strict implementations of their rules that even taxi drivers would follow, no wonder investors are keep on coming.
I hope that with my heartfelt suggestions, our beloved Mayor hears. Thank you.
More power to Gensan, GoGoGo!
White knight ^_^
I think our robinsons-gensan is pinaka dako so far among the robinsons in the phils currently build, if im not mistaken. It’s really a great dev’t for us gensan people ajd i’m not surprise that investors are keep on coming in our place now because of our advantage in infrastures, wide roads, excellent climate and our growing population.
white knight ^_^
I’ve seen the perspective of robinson’s tacloban, it is “posporo type” super festive mall…parang sm davao na hindi. but the nice thing is may call center ito.
I haven’t seen image of robinson dumaguete yet but i presume maganda rin. of course robinson’s gensan base sa picture dito ay talagang sowsie. dapat lang maging sosyal ito dahil nga may hotel. 🙂
wow…ganda pala design…may kasama ba nyan Hotel?
ako ulit…
it’s a good thing matutuloy na talaga ang robinsons.:D
hay… i’ve been hearing about a robinsons gensan for almost ten years now, pero wala pa rin. my family and i have since relocated to my dad’s birthplace, davao city. the last time i visited gensan after seven long years was just last may and i have to admit that gensan has changed in some ways; although it has much to grow to be in the league of davao. 😀
hehehe. nice ung design..wala nga katulad…
Tuna pie? Where do you buy your needs? Your groceries? School supplies? Where do you watch the latest movie blockbuster? Where do you hang out with your friends, if you have any?
I don’t buy on this mall thing idea! it makes a person more materialistic.
char lang ernan… perte gyud og comment da! hehehe! see you mamaya sa miss gensan screening…judge ka baya! hopefully sa robinsons na pod ang screening next year…hahahaha! patay ako kay paul gaisano nito…

Robinsons Gensan’s rendition looks like BTC in Cebu.

This is a clear proof na gensan is an “it” city na jud no. . .
go go go gensan!
I like this perspective view of Robinson Mall although some skirmish happening surrounding Gensan. Hoping the project finish on time.
I stand corrected… Medium na diay sya. hehehe. thanks bariles
Go GenSaN!!
@paolo_songcayauon –
thanks for the insight PAULO…
nag-wonder lang man gud ko kay i saw a feature in discovery channel a few months back on the building projects in dubai… i mean desert pud ang dubai, and they are also developing their coastline… i know it’s a long shot, but as JP said, with the right technology, it is possible… maybe in about 10 years time… let’s wish for the best… 🙂
bottom line is, pasalamat ta kay JOHN GOKONGWEI because of his trust in the city as well sa “Generals”… excited na tanan with this development… the more options we have, the better… 🙂
cheers!!! 🙂
Hi Vel,
I hope to visit Gensan someday when the Robinsons Gen. Santos Mall will start its business. Will see u too!!!!
hello Mr. Avel, according to a reliable source from East Asia Royale Hotel may hotel raw ang Robinsons Gensan with 250 rooms mas marami kesa sa EARH, how true is this?
With two malls just close to each other, grabe talaga ang traffic. With the new establishment tyak mahahati ang mga tao…lesser traffic..hehehehe..
mentally yours,
Nate marx

layag gensan. nothing and no one can stop us now!.. Ahooo!…Ahooo.!.. i love to hear new developments in our city. very proud to be from here…
wow, ganda!
ay bongga! sosi ang dating! hopefully it will cater also to middle class income families… kasi ang Robinsons dito sa KL eh pang elite lang jud! super mahal gid kasi ah! during ‘sales’ lang nga talaga ako makabili eh. but, they got really good quality and classy items na hindi makita sa ibang malls. and, meron clang cigar room in one cozy corner just next to the men’s section… na puedeng kang mag yosi at mag cofi-cofi! o di vah sosi! pag nawala ako… dyan ako makikita! hehehe!
Thanks for the updates kuya avel…
In awe… Wow. I wish they could provide more of the artist sketches. I really am excited for Robinsons Gensan. Weeee~ Kudos to Gensan.

@anonymouse 🙂 – Cute keeu ka uy. 🙂
@paolo_songcayauon – Nothing is actually impossible with today’s engineering advancements to be able to erect and structurally secure a multi level building. But if you are confined to the conventional way of construction then building high-rise habitable structures will seem impossible. The bottom line is, one needs a lot of money to bring and utilize the latest technology in construction. All we need are investors and to be able to do so, we must convince them.
Regarding having basements, having the necessity of putting up one in the mall will have to depend on the Floor-Area Ratio (FAR) of the building. It will either be a multi-level parking building (like the case of KCC Mall) or a multi-level basement parking. But if I am the owner or the developer of the project, I will have to go for a multi-level parking building because it is much much expensive to dig and pave a basement area than to erect a parking building.:)
@gensanite – Hi. I think the main reason why we are not allowed to have high rise buildings in the city is because our soil is mostly sandy. As what I have learned in my Natural Science, placing a high rise building in a sandy soil will result in liquefaction. This means that when that site is struck by an earthquake, the sandy soil will be shaken loose as if it is watery, endangering whatever was built above it. hahaha! Sunggo… That is what I think… ^_^ Hope that helps… 😀 (p.s. Please correct me if I am wrong, ok? Feel free lang…)
hala ka… kulbaan na gyud ang kcc ani ba. samtang ang gaisano way paki. hehehehe… okay gyud basta wala kay utang — wa kay paki… magsige lang og develop og improve si gaisano… naa man guy loyal customer base. kcc gyud ani ang maapektuhan … i just hope makasugakod gihapon sila kay sila baya una nag improve sa kasosyalan nga mall diri sa gensan…
@bariles –
wala diay basement or something? i mean for parking, extra space for lease, etc…
i really dunno why we can’t have high rise buildings in the city…
As I was expecting it’s a nice artist’s rendition of the mall’s facade.:) I hope that Robinson’s mall mgt will maintain quality and friendly shopping experience for all Generals.
Sana may mga botanical garden ang interior nito with lots of water works, light and sound effects, benches and coffee shops.hehe:) ample parking space and well planned drop off and pick up points for puv’s.
Hi gensanite! If you read the first post about Robinsons fully, the whole structure has two floors. The 2nd floor will house their 4 cinemas. 😉
Blackmeat! Hahahaha! Daw buing ka gid haw! 😮
Hi dvscreencraft! Welcome to Bariles Republic. This is indeed good for business. So stay on and put your money here. And by the way, we are classified as a MEDIUM SIZED City already. 🙂
Whew! Masanag kag daku-daku nga balay ba.. Ahehe! Daw balay sang higante ba.. Ahehe!
Wow! I just might rethink my plans to leave town. It would be very interesting to see this small city grow. This is very good for business.
