Teatro Ambahon, the multi-awarded resident theater group of Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College once again proved its mettle by winning the Top Plum during the 2009 Mindanao Modern Dance National Competition during the T’nalak Festival last July 15, 2009 at the South Cotabato Gym in Koronadal City.
The group was the grand awardee of the Wifi Body Independent Dance Festival Young Choreographers Competition last year at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This time, at the Mindanao Modern Dance National Competition, they won the Dual Category, with a new entry, “Portia“.
Eating their dust were the dance groups from La Salle and Bohol.
“Portia“, performed by Hanna Rivas and Roy Misoles and choreographed by Jan Robert Acharon with Husen Ngilay (both GenSan LGU Youth Awardees), was set to the music of Zander Khan‘s old hit from the 80s, “Tanging Ikaw“, which is still a regular jukebox staple.
The winners took home a trophy and P20,000 from the National Center for Culture and Arts (NCCA) and the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, under Governor Daisy Avance-Fuentes.
Congratulations to Artistic Director Bing Carino and kudos to Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College‘s unwavering commitment to support modern dance culture.
Here then is the Youtube video of their winning piece, “Portia” where their performance was greeted by cheers from the jampacked SoCot Gym all throughout its four-minute duration, a clear sign of its massive appeal.
Note: The picture above is from “Manoy” which was mounted in Japan.

typo-“nanonood” instead of nanood and “in the end” instead of it the end.
thank you.
impressive. mukhang love story to me. wish ko lang pag ganyan klaseng performances, people should refrain from making so much noise, kahit ba bilib na bilib ka pa, there’s a time for cheering naman para mas mag mukhang classy yung performance pati na rin ang buong venue. especially pag may mga taga ibang bansa na nanood, kasi medyo distracting nga. every move ng performers ay pinaghirapan at pinag aralan ng mabuti at mas maa-appreciate siguro pag you watch it in peace and quiet, baka maluha ka pa it the end because of it’s sad message, hindi yung puro hiyawan at malakas na palakpakan, hmmm. bakit kaya?
wow!ang galing nila!.i remember the rmmc himig choir nung araw.they made it to national level.too.
