Barely two weeks ago, GenSan City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio finally got a glimpse of how her city’s next mall will look like.
The design team of the upcoming SM City GenSan composed of representatives from Monolith Construction Dev. Corp, general contractor; Jose Siao Ling & Associates, architect; and D.A. Abcede & Associates, project manager, paid her a visit at her office at the City Hall. They were accompanied by GenSan Chamber prexy Jan Ced and Architect Michael Ang, project coordinator for SM City GenSan.
It was there that the group headed by SM City Gensan Architect Jose Siao Ling, presented her with the perspectives, floor plans and blue prints of one of the most-anticipated projects in South Central Mindanao. Assisting him in the presentation were Engr. Dennis Abcede, Jr. (D.A.Abecede & Associates VP) and Engr. Mariano T. See Diet (Monolith Construction Dev. Corp. EVP/Gen Manager).
Mayor Custodio was visibly impressed with the SM City GenSan perspectives and designs and stayed longer for the dialogue which followed which tackled traffic management, sewerage system, garbage handling, employment opportunities and tax incentives, among other topics. Together with the mayor were City Administator Atty. Jong Gonzales and Chief of Staff Myrna Mejorada.
According to the SM Team, the two-story mall will cover a total of 100,000 sq. meters of floor space, which is bigger than SM City Davao’s 80,000 sq. meters.
Its main frontage will face San Miguel Street which will be widened into a four-lane avenue. To see where it is, click this—> SM City GenSan location.
SM Prime Holdings has already acquired a portion of the triangular lot straddling J. Catolico Avenue and San Miguel Street for this plan. It will also provide the traffic signal system at the junction of Santiago Boulevard and San Miguel.
Very noticeable in the perspectives presented to the mayor is the uniquely designed logo of the mall which displays a bigger and more prominent rendering of the words “GENERAL SANTOS“. From Architect Jose Siao Ling came the answer that the emphasis on the Tuna Capital’s name was due to their knowledge that the people of GenSan are extremely proud of their famous city and this is SM’s way of solidifying it.
(Upon hearing this, Bariles who noted the peculiarity could only gasp, “Whoa GenSan!”)
At the Santiago Boulevard side of SM City GenSan is their terminal for public vehicles like jeeps, vans and probably (as suggested by Mayor Custodio), parking for trucks which are usually the vehicles of choice of excursionists and shoppers from the rest of the region.
For sure, the mayor quipped, once SM City GenSan opens, there will be a beeline of these vehicles to the Tuna Capital and the mall should be ready for this.
To help enliven GenSan’s night life and cement its reputation as Region 12’s entertainment capital, SM City General Santos will house its Al Fresco restaurants and bars on the other side of the mall which will also operate until midnight similar to Robinsons Place. Their row of dining establishments promises a refreshing and relaxing ambience since at its center will be a large dancing fountain, an important water element in the newer malls of today.
To top it all, all the four cinemas of SM City GenSan at the second floor will be 3D-equipped.
Ground breaking and fencing of the compound will start immediatly after September 10, 2010 and based on the design team’s estimates, construction will be finished by 10 months at the very least.
This means therefore, that aside from Robinsons Place GenSan, KCC Mall of GenSan and Gaisano City GenSan, the people of Soccksargen will have another shopping destination in time for Christmas 2011 – and its name is SM City General Santos.
mga pards and mards. . . . . . elegant taste for all shoppers’ comfort.
MAganda kasi at malamig nga
Sa GEnsan Rob. . . malamig. Clean ang toilets. . . Same with KCC clean ang CR nila. Pero sa Gaisano GEnsan. . . .OH NO THATS THE MOST NEGLECTED AREA. . . .Imagine mo yang Gaisano Gensan. . . ang laki pero ONE CR lang . . . .dyan ang palpak ng design.
Siguro mas appropriate to recommend sa ROB and KCC na magkaroon sila ng vending machines sa loob ng CR para me available na toilet papers hehehehehe
@checkmate101, Bullseye! 🙂
It’s mind-boggling. We already have three existing malls (robinsons, kcc and gaisano) with a voting population of more than 300thousands only. The city allowed SM to operate but disallowed UST (a university), san miguel beer plant (now in darong), and a tile manufacturing firm (now in digos city) to operate a few years back.
For sure there will be some employement once SM will be fully operational but will also results to some unemployement in others. Net effect, I do not know.
Until now, I do not see the value of kalilangan, tuna and pasko sa gensan festivals. Organizers bragged about them every year and soliciting always. Our city spends millions of pesos, for what? For some festivities, temporary employements for some select people during those times. I’m not quite sure if those events were originally intended to attract what (tourists, investors) or to brag about organizers ideas and talents for shows (hehehe).
Tuna industry is collapsing, unemployement is increasing, during dry spell expect power shortage, increase in criminal activities (carnappings, killings), dengue outbreak, and many more…
Too many problems to solve and overcome, less AIM kagawads brain power available (meron ba) since remote controlled (hehehe)… Funny, just smile at it, para gumana utak…
@Danny, how about you? What have you done for GenSan?
I’m a bit disappointed.
Hindi ba? hehe just a thought. I heard so many nice things about Tagum city lately..hmmm
haha di pa nagsisimula ang sm gensan.. panis agad compared to sm lanang tsk tsk haha
SY 4 the construction of sM? suggest q sa chiraah trades nalang… hahaha… CHIRAH TRADES, your business partner..and 1 thing pa pla, tutuo yung limkitkai? narinig q lng yun….=)… help smalll business grow, malay natin, sila pa ang magpapaimprove ng economy of gensan….
Gensan Cinemas!
KCC needs improvement on its seats, hindi comfortable
Robs Cinemas, the best in Region XII and XII
SM Cinemas, sana much better
Gaisano, needs major renovation
Queen ang sm e. Princess lang ang rob.
sa size lang hinuon king an KCC.. SM pa rin ako.. hehe
so sa ato pa… KCC is still the KING!
maybe timezone or quantum hehe.
go SM!
sana hindi world of fun ang amusement center ng sm! pra astig at maiba timezone naman….!!! sawa na ang wof! heheh
Yeah, same here I hope McDonald’s Drive thru Gensan would not consider closing. Like their first branch outside Victoria Malls, at first medyo hindi rin naging malakas pero ngayon stabilized na rin ang sales nila. Sayang kasi ang puesto nila outside KCC.
Magko-close talaga ang unang outlet ng Mcdonalds kasi lumipat na sila sa building ng kcc mismo… for lease lang din kasi ug unang pwesto nila.. but they are planning naman to open another outlet in which they will put the drive-thru again… 🙂
– this news i got from kcc management
may drive thru.
may play pen for kids. .
may privacy for loners. na gustong mag isip, magbasa etc pa.
hope sa mcdonald kcc. . . maging the same din ang atmosphere.
Sana huwag na lang i-close yung unang outlet ng McDonalds kasi nice yung may drive thru and play pen…I Love McDonald’s too! ^-^
So, GSC was so lucky to have McDonald’s for almost 7years of existence.plss…..I love mcdonalds ksi eh..
@white knight: tama ka dpat lng. Kawawa masyado ang mga pinb0y sa 5m. Nag o0vertime plagi.
@checkmate101: relax lng. Nagtatan0ng lng ang tao. Tumingin ka cguro sa salamin kya highbl0od ka. Me:ang punto ku na rin ay if mag isa lng mall sa apopong or other places except laga0, mas maraming tao ang pupunta dahil wala i2ng kak0mpetensya. Set the example of fitmart.
i hope gensan have also bay walk
Suggestion:
PLease include covered motorcyle parking area like kcc and Robs
Just a suggestion to the SM Management : Sana they will consider putting up a computerized BOWLING LANES for SM City Gensan. When Jovir Bowling Lanes (formerly Dover lanes) closed a year ago to give way to the clearing of SM property.
I’m pretty sure a lot of those bowling tournaments held before that had been died due to the impending construction will be back again. The General’s are precisely sports buff and health conscious. So I think SM should not be hesitant to add these kind of amenities in their mall since it would also be a crowd drawer.
astiga uy………..naa npud ta bag.o hang outan……..go gensan kuyaw pud jejeje
hehehehe toinks: peace long before when i worked in Manila overheard ko sa officemate ko me kausap sa phone. . . . ganito ang heard ko “DEAR MAGKITA TAYO SA SM CUBAO THEN GO TAYO SA SM PASIG.
SM PASIG? Sa taong 1982 wala pa yung SM MEGAMALL, SM PASIG SM NORTH EDSA. . . .
hahahaha
pangit man ui…pareho man japin s r0bi murag man warehouse..dapat sm warehouse plaza…lolz
nadamguhan lng nko kuya avel.hehe
@checkmate101: ew? ewe?!! gawa-in nyo po ba? eeeeeww..hahaha peace!
@Mark: okay lang ka? @_@
@sky its nice to here from u na may plan ang limkitkai mall magpatau sa lungsod natin, pero as i search it sa yahoo at google wala pa na nmn confrmation as i visit dr website, limkitkai is from cagayan de oro city.but im looking forward,.magandang gensan!

WOW!!!!! am not a resident of GENSAN but wow am so PROUD to know that SM is invading ur city! whew! SM gensan? sulong gyud mga taga north cotabatenyos dha!!!!!GO GO GO GENSAN!
i mean katabing vacant lot ng district hospital.. hehe
hahaha… marinig din akong balita about the limketkai.. may plano talaga sila magpatayo dito.. dun sa may vacant lot ng District Hospital natin… hmmp.. if sa apopong ipapatayo ang mall.. walang pupunta dahil ang competition nasa lagao… bakit pa sila pupunta ng apopong kung marami namang pupuntahan sa lagao.. getz mo? haha
hello people.
some are disgusted about SM being build again in lagao. . .
saka isa pa mas mura ang idle land kesa sa mga improved area kasi taas presyo. at least with the SAlazar llots leased to SM for a dozen of years maging happy ang buong gensan. . . daming pasyalan libre aircon pa. hehehehe
.
pSSSSSSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTT YUNG HULING SM ibig pala nyon SA MOTEL
HAHAHAHAHA
wow…cant wait to go home….sosyal my sm n s gensan…sna pag.uwi nmin bukas na….. good luck…
Rob and SM investments are just the beginning…
More to come 4 GENSAN….
@Sky: Talaga? LIMKETKAI in Lagao – Buayan Road Junction? MAg dilang anghel ka sana…hehehe
Sarap maging GENERAL these days! I’m really proud of our beloved CITY!
WOW!
all malls IN LAGAO area!… traffic plans dapat plansado na.. road widening is not enough.. MANPOWER and COOPERATION among Generals.. Tsaka BASURA natin….
Its not NCCC, It LimKitKai(tama ba spelling??) soon to rise along LAGAO area again.. malapit sa lagao -buayan junction road!!!..
Sulong gensan!!!
