GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Labangal National High School emerged victorious in the 3rd General Santos City Quiz Bee Grand Finals, held on August 23, 2025 at SM City General Santos, besting other top contenders in a battle of knowledge and wits.

The Winners

After a rigorous series of elimination rounds that involved 39 schools across the city, the Grand Finals narrowed down to the best of the best. In the end, Labangal NHS claimed the championship title, followed by Mindanao State University – College of Education Training Department (MSU-CETD) in second place, and General Santos City National High School in third place.

Themed “Our Journey Through History,” this year’s Quiz Bee became a vibrant showcase of intellect, teamwork, and pride in the city’s heritage.

Message from The Pioneers

In his address, Mr. Tito Santos, President of The Pioneers – Descendants of General Santos City, Inc. (TPDGSCI), underscored the deeper meaning of the event:

“You’ve all shown brilliance, teamwork, and pride in our city’s rich history and culture. Every participant is a winner for carrying the torch of learning.”

The success of the Quiz Bee was made possible through the unwavering support of the Local Government of General Santos City, led by Mayor Lorelie G. Pacquiao; the City Economic and Cooperative Development Office, headed by Dr. Leonard Flores with assistance from City Tourism Officer Elidoro Alcaya; the House of Representatives, through Congresswoman Shirlyn Bañas-Nograles; the Department of Education – General Santos City Division; and SM City General Santos.

Strong institutional partners also played a key role, including CDO Foodsphere, Incorporated (“Food that brings you home”), SM City General Santos (“Everything’s here at SM!”), and Cronasia Foundation College, Incorporated (“Dito sa Cronasia, Angat ka!”).

Inspiring the Next Generation

With Labangal National High School proudly carrying home the championship trophy, the 3rd General Santos City Quiz Bee reaffirmed General Santos’ tradition of academic excellence. More than just a contest, it became a reminder that the city continues to nurture future leaders who embody knowledge, heritage, and community pride.

As part of their victory honor, the Grand Champion will be joining the wreath-laying ceremony marking the 79th Death Anniversary of General Paulino Santos on August 29, 2025, at his monument in Plaza Heneral Santos—a symbolic tribute linking the youth’s pursuit of knowledge with the city’s proud history.
