A dedicated group of environmentalists, engineers, and healthcare professionals spearheaded the GSDH Green Initiative with the goal of lowering the hospital’s carbon footprint while ensuring top-notch patient care. The solar panel system consists of state-of-the-art photovoltaic modules strategically installed on the hospital’s rooftop, seamlessly integrating with the existing infrastructure.

This groundbreaking initiative is expected to have a significant impact on the hospital’s operations. With the solar panels now in place, GSDH is projected to generate a substantial amount of clean and renewable energy, reducing its reliance on traditional power sources. This not only contributes to a cleaner environment but also helps to alleviate energy costs, allowing the hospital to allocate more resources towards patient care and medical advancements.

Moreover, the solar panel system is designed to maximize energy efficiency, capturing sunlight throughout the day and converting it into usable electricity. Any surplus energy generated by the panels will be seamlessly fed back into the local power grid, benefiting the community as a whole.

In an effort to raise awareness and promote eco-consciousness, GSDH plans to launch educational campaigns on renewable energy, targeting both staff members and patients. These initiatives aim to empower individuals to embrace sustainable practices and make environmentally friendly choices in their everyday lives.

The introduction of the solar panel system at General Santos Doctors Hospital is a testament to the institution’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and providing the highest quality healthcare. GSDH hopes that this pioneering initiative will inspire other medical facilities in the region to follow suit and embark on their own green journeys, paving the way for a greener and healthier future for all.

The inauguration ceremony, held on September 7, 2023, at the GSDH Multipurpose Function Hall, united key stakeholders, community leaders, and sustainability champions to celebrate the commitment to clean energy and environmental responsibility.

As of August 10, 2023, GSDH operated on 806 Solar PV modules, projecting an annual clean energy output of 591,796 kWh, equivalent to avoiding 281,597 kilograms of carbon emissions. This underscores GSDH’s unwavering dedication to sustainability.

Dr. Daniel G. Yap, President and Director for Medical Services of GSDH, stated, ‘This substantial investment in renewable energy positions GSDH as a forward-thinking healthcare institution, extending its mission beyond exceptional patient care. Our hospital fervently champions sustainable environmental initiatives, safeguarding and enhancing the well-being of our community for generations.’

GSDH collaborated with Energisto Philippines, a renewable energy development corporation, to ensure the successful realization of this green endeavor. Sr. Mercilyn V. Jabel, SPC, Director for Hospital Operations at GSDH, affirmed, ‘This project reflects our commitment to innovation and preserving the integrity of our world. As a Christ-centered organization, we aim to be part of the solution, creating a positive global impact.’

The inauguration ceremony held profound significance for not only GSDH but also the entire General Santos City, marking a significant step toward a more sustainable energy landscape.

As the solar panels commence their clean energy production, GSDH eagerly anticipates a brighter and more eco-friendly future, harnessing the boundless potential of the sun.
